SUMMARY:Art Exhibit Reception: "Images of War" at UU Meeting House
DESCRIPTION:Images of guns and weapons of war are not what we expect to see at the holidays. And yet\, as the world hopes for peace\, war continues. "Images of War\," featuring textile pieces by Chatham textile artist Priscilla Smith\, is on display through the end of December at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House\, 819 Main Street\, Chatham. An Artist Reception will be held on Sunday\, December 17\, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Fleck Room of the Meeting House and the public is invited. Smith\, whose focus is social commentary\, seeks to provoke thought and emotion\, to raise consciousness\, and to galvanize change through her art. An award-winning artist whose work has been shown in venues as diverse as the Miami International Airport and the Rochester Contemporary Arts Center\, Smith marched for peace and other social causes for many years. "That is not enough\," she said. "The artist must also create "images" which reflect\, in the case of war\, its horror and dark side." \n\n\n\nThe "Images of War" art exhibit will be on display for public viewing on Sundays in December from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the UU Meeting House. The Meeting House nurtures inclusive community\, seeks justice and equity\, and encourages free minds and spirits.
