Though renowned for its victories over the Royal Navy in the War of 1812\, Constitution's voyages and missions spanned the globe throughout the 19th century representing diverse U.S. interests in the farthest ports before radio communication. Discover the stories behind some of the ship's most dramatic adventures and the captivating crews who led to her success.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n About Our Speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSince 2017\, CARL HERZOG has been the Public Historian for the USS Constitution Museum\, where he conducts original research on the history of the ship\, designs public programming and teaches maritime history to the active-duty US Navy crew of USS Constitution. A resident of Falmouth\, he holds a PhD in history from the University of Massachusetts Amherst\, where he specialized in colonial smuggling operations in the Caribbean during the decades leading up to the American Revolution. For 20 years before joining the museum\, Carl taught navigation\, seamanship and maritime history for education programs on board a variety of schooners and square-rigged sailing ships. When he wasn't at sea\, he served for eight years as editor-in-chief of a series of annual marine navigation handbooks. He holds a 500-ton ocean master's license from the United States Coast Guard and has spent about 50\,000 miles under sail in the Atlantic\, Pacific\, and Caribbean\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Chatham Marconi Maritime Center\n\n \n\nFounded in 2002\, the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to preserve and celebrate the history of Chatham Radio/WCC and 20th Century maritime communication through interpretive museum exhibits\, educational programs and community engagement.
